Exploring Prince Edward Island: A Camping Adventure

Discovering the Charms of Canada's Smallest Province

Prince Edward Island, with its picturesque landscapes and quaint towns, offers a delightful retreat for nature lovers and adventurers alike. Join us on our journey as we explore the hidden gems and culinary delights of this beautiful island province, all while enjoying the comforts of camping in our toy hauler/trailer.

Setting Up Camp at Cavendish Campground

Our journey began with a scenic drive from Montreal to Prince Edward Island, where we settled in at the Cavendish campground within the PEI National Park. Nestled amidst nature, this campground provided the perfect base for our seven-day adventure. With half days spent working remotely on our laptops and afternoons reserved for exploration, we struck a perfect balance between work and play.

Embracing Literary History: Anne of Green Gables

For literature enthusiasts, the nearby town of Cavendish holds a special allure as the setting of the beloved "Anne of Green Gables" novels. While we didn't miss the chance to visit Anne's fictional home, we also indulged in the island's real-life charms.

Culinary Delights:

From Oysters to Lobster Rolls

Our culinary journey across PEI was nothing short of divine. From indulging in freshly shucked oysters in North Rustico to savoring crispy fries and refreshing lemonade at Taters in Charlottetown, every bite was a treat for the taste buds. Salt & Sol restaurant and lounge offered another memorable dining experience, with its delectable seafood dishes and picturesque marina views.

Sunset Serenity and Sandy Shores

No trip to PEI is complete without witnessing the breathtaking sunsets at Cavendish Beach. With chairs in tow, we watched in awe as the sky painted a masterpiece of colors against the horizon. Our beach-hopping adventures also led us to Thunder Cove, where the iconic red sand and cliffs left an indelible impression.

Local Encounters and Insider Tips

Interacting with locals added a special dimension to our journey. From sampling Valley Pearl Oysters to joining a lively Trivia Night, we immersed ourselves in the island's vibrant community. Insider recommendations led us to hidden gems like the Greenwich dunes trail and the tantalizing lobster rolls at Richards and Clam Diggers.

Basin Head Provincial Park: A Beachside Oasis

Our exploration culminated at Basin Head Provincial Park, where shallow surf beaches and the famous jumping bridge offered endless fun. Though the "singing beach" eluded us, the unique charm of this destination left us enchanted.

Farewell to PEI: Memories to Treasure

As our time on the island drew to a close, we made a final stop at the charming village of Victoria by the Sea. Here, amidst quaint streets and idyllic views, we savored our last taste of PEI with one more delectable lobster roll.

In conclusion, our journey through Prince Edward Island was a tapestry of natural wonders, culinary delights, and heartfelt encounters. Whether you're a camping enthusiast or a lover of leisurely escapes, PEI promises an unforgettable experience that lingers long after you've crossed the bridge back to the mainland.
